skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (elizabeth book)

[livejournal.com profile] cupenny = best birthdaytwin ever. :D Her present is currently marking my spot in the copy of Dracula I am reading for class.

As re: Dracula - reading it for the first time in several years and having so much fun. This book makes me laugh lots and that is why I love it. Oh, that wacky Jonathan Harker. I have also been informed that we are watching clips from 'Buffy vs. Dracula' in class for the discussion, which: HAHAHAHA.

However. Dorm bathrooms? I have no problem with conserving energy; however, switching the lights off suddenly when I am naked and in the shower, especially when I have just been reading Dracula, is not, as you might think, wildly entertaining. No love, me.

Ahaha. I just checked Dracula out from the library, though not for a class, just for "hmm, I like horror but have never read Dracula, this should be fixed!"

Though I have yet to get to anything more fun than Bram Stoker being all "LOOK! LOOK, I RESEARCHED TRANSYLVANIA! THIS IS WHAT TRANSYLVANIA'S LIKE, GUYS! I KNOW BECAUSE I DID RESEARCH!!!"Jonathan Harker waxing lyrical about the countryside and all those quaint susperstitious peasants.

Yes, but I am impatient for melodramatic vampiric hijinks which cannot commence until he gets to the castle already!

Also I have the huge annotated edition edited by Leonard Wolf, so there are scads of footnotes which are occasionally awesome vampire lore trilogy but are sometimes details from Transylvanian travel guides or recipes for all the food Harker keeps describing. It's like "LOOK I RESEARCHED TRANSYLVANIA TOO AND MORE THOROUGHLY AND IN THE 2OTH CENTURY, TAKE THAT STOKER!!"

Oh man, Dracula is so utterly badass. It's like an action movie in epistolary form!

Mine are everything Dracula does, EVER, because he's a CRAZY-ASS MOFO. WITH A FASHIONABLE STRAW HAT.

Close second is Van Helsing, who is just hilarious sometimes.

BECAUSE AN ACTION MOVIE IS NEVER COMPLETE WITHOUT A COWBOY.

Because he's from America and isn't that nifty? Listen to his funny American slang!

...I have perhaps been skipping around a bit.

I have perhaps been skipping around enough of a bit to declare Van Helsing the wacky bad-English-speaking vampire-hunting professor of my heart.

BUT HER IMMORTAL SOUL IS OKAY, AND THAT IS WHAT MATTERS!

Just, whatever you do, don't watch Bram Stoker's Dracula. Don't do it if you value your sanity!

I fear it is too late for you. :(

But at least there was lesbian subtext? I mean, there are much more horrible ways to go.

It might have even balanced out cavorting Anthony Hopkins. But nothing can overcome Neo Keanu as Johnathan.

I was suppose to read Dracula my senior year in high school. Empasis on the 'suppose'. *shifty*

Well, then. *glances over at bookshelf where Dracula/Frankenstein/Jekyl&Hyde (all in one!) resides* I might have to read it then.

And why is there no escape from the cowboy??!! *flails*
