Oct. 5th, 2017 11:39 pmDear Yuletide author,
Thank you so much for signing up to write a gift for me! I have been doing Yuletide for some large number of years now and I have been delighted with my gifts for every single one; if you write something that makes you happy, I guarantee I will be delighted with it also.
I am always interested in women interacting with each other, ensemble stories, sibling dynamics, and the kind of romance where two flawed and peculiar people figure out how their flaws and peculiarities fit together. I am pretty much always down for crossovers and I'm potentially intrigued by canon-divergence AUs, but the kind of AU that transplants characters wholesale into a completely different story tends to be more hit-or-miss for me; the settings and specific circumstances are a lot of what interests me about these canons.
I don't mind canon-consistent dark themes if it makes sense for the story, but I tend not to be into graphic and gratuitous violence. I'm cool with sexual content, but I'd rather that wasn't the whole point of the fic.
Fandom: 20th Century Boys
Characters: Endou Kanna, Koizumi Kyoko
Details: I crave Twentieth Century Teen Girl Squad fic! What about that time that they utilized Kanna's +10 charisma and Kyoko's obsessive knowledge of Japanese post-apocalyptic bandom to organize a music concert together to save the world? What about future world-saving adventures? What about future adventures that have nothing to do with saving the world? IT'S ALL GOOD.
While I love almost everything about 20th Century Boys, one of my greatest sorrows is the fact that we don't get to see Kanna and Kyoko interact nearly as much as I want. They're very different people, but they've been through a heck of an experience together -- there have to have been a few times when it made a difference to have another teenaged girl around. (I mean, I know my apocalypse would always be brightened by the presence of Koizumi Kyoko, although that is partly because Koizumi Kyoko is a SHINING STAR. I suggested a fic about their time organizing that huge music concert, but that's just one idea. Other ideas: did they ever hang out while Kanna was running her revolutionary cell? Did Kyoko ever ask Kanna for help? Or maybe postcanon, Kanna needs Kyoko's help on something! MAYBE THEY FIGHT CRIME. (I didn't even have enough slots to nominate this fandom this year, so I was very excited to see that someone else had my same dream!)
Fandom: Crossroads Series - Nick O'Donohoe
Characters: Any
Details: There is so much potential for backstory and futurestory about all the side characters in these books! How does Polyta cope with her new terrible subjects? What if Gredya and BJ had gotten to spend more time co-parenting? How did Laurie and the Griffin even meet? HOW DOES LAURIE KNOW ABOUT CROSSROADS TO BEGIN WITH. I HAVE SO MANY QUESTIONS.
I love this weird, weird series of books very much and I am very excited to have rediscovered it in time for Yuletide! Each character could basically have a whole novel to themselves, each in a completely different genre, from heroic epic to hilarious interspecies slow-burn rom-com. I'm especially interested in Polyta taking on the role of leader during a time of cultural change, and would love to see more of her in this role at any point during or after canon -- especially after the slavers swear fealty to her and she's suddenly got to be responsible for a whole bunch of horrible humans on top of her own people! A COMPLICATED TIME. I am also SO CURIOUS about backstory for Laurie and Asturiel -- how does a vigilante griffin fall in love with an anesthesiology student? That must have been one hell of a meet-cute. For Gredya, I'm not as interested in her backstory with Morgan (I feel like I have a pretty good sense of that) but I am very interested in her friendship with BJ (or more than friendship! BJ spends an awful lot of time talking about how attractive she is, and they were pretty successful coparents for a while! I'm just saying!) and her attempts to rebuild a life for herself after that. Actually, this is one case where I'd also potentially be interested in a canon-divergence AU: what if Gredya's son hadn't died and they had continued to have weird werewolf coparenting hijinks? But feel free also to take any of these characters in a direction I haven't thought of, or explore dynamics I haven't mentioned; I am sure you probably have a lot of questions related to these books as well that you would like to have answered! GO WILD. Nick O'Donohoe sure did!
Fandom: Friends at the Table (Podcast)
Characters: Sokrates Nikon Artemisios, Cassander Timaeus Berenice, Orth Godlove, Aria Joie, Ibex
Details: I'm extremely curious about the siblings of House Pelagios in the early days of the Demarchy - I feel like we got a lot of fascinating hints about the complexity of their relationship without ever delving in. I'm also interested in how all the Kingdom game characters perceive each other and might interact with each other years down the line, if given the opportunity - and how the members of the Chime who interact with them the most perceive them, having lived through that era. (I don't have enough slots to request Ibex, but I feel it's kind of a given that after a certain point in canon Ibex's shadow hangs pretty consistently over both Orth and Aria, so let's just pretend I did?)
I literally just finished the Counter/Weight arc of Friends at the Table last week and had the hardest time narrowing down characters to request -- the format of the show leaves so many interesting blank spaces for interstitial character relationships and worldbuilding! The relationship between Cass and Integrity!Sokrates is, to me, one of the biggest gaps; their two significant fraternal conversations happen when they're light-years apart and probably about to die in giant robots, and we never see them interact in the same space on more mundane matters and I WANT TO SO BADLY, a.) because of all of the complicated affection and mistrust and betrayal between them and b.) because even with a Divine Sokrates definitely still talks at least a little like Keith and therefore almost certainly drives Cass halfway up a wall much of the time. That's my most specific prompt, but definitely not the only thing I'm interested in. I would also love anything about Aria adjusting to Righteousness and her role as leader of the Vanguard; about Aria and/or Orth dealing with Ibex and/or The Shadow And Legacy Of Ibex, separately or together; about Aria or Cass' regular sparring fights as they deal with their new political positions; about Chime characters having weird times interacting with Kingdom game characters given that they lived through their memories; about Orth having weird times interacting with other Kingdom game characters, knowing that he plugged a whole bunch of near-strangers straight into their memories who then all turned out to become major political figures -- so much possibility for weird politics and terrible dinner parties and unfortunate human-technology interactions! ALL THE THINGS COUNTER/WEIGHT DOES BEST. (As a sidenote, I have not listened to later Friends at the Table seasons yet and do not know if I will have done so by the time Yuletide rolls around; probably not, I'm a slow listener.)

Details: I would be incredibly excited to get any fic for this series at all! But if you are looking for ideas: anything written in Monkey's voice; anything about Civet, either pre-series or interacting with the others during the journey; and anything about the gang's interactions post-series, especially Monkey-Shimmer hijinksfic or Indigo and Shimmer and Thorn's complicated emotional triangle is sure to make me happy. (But so is anything else.)
The last time I requested this was, I think, in 2010, and I did not get it, and the TIME HAS COME OT TRY AGAIN. As with many of the things I'm requesting this year, the nature of the canon provides a lot of room to play around the edges, and I would love to see anything that is going on with the characters that the series doesn't show us - especially Civet, who I am completely fascinated by. If, in adding more depth, you wanted to go a little bit darker and elaborate on some of the creepiness that kid's books often skim over, that's fine by me here. I am also really curious to see the rebuilding of Shimmer's kingdom postcanon, and how everyone settles into the mundane realities of their new and possibly uncomfortable roles, and how they manage to navigate the minefield that is all of their mountains of issues and ridiculously codependent relationships. (If you're interested in romance, Shimmer/Thorn and Shimmer/Indigo are both good by me, as is Complicated Emotional Threesome which is honestly what seems to me the most likely.) Also, Monkey being unhelpful - or being surprisingly helpful! - is always great, too. BUT BASICALLY I really just want fic for these books to exist, so seriously, write whatever floats your boat and I will be incredibly happy!
