I had been picturing Teleus and Relius as around the same age, but I definitely envisioned their dynamic as a triangle with their loyalty to Attolia at the point of it ... I do want to reread KoA at some point with this knowledge now, though! (it IS very funny to think that they're just being incredibly romantic off-page throughout KoA and Costis is a Very Nice Young Man who does Not Want to Think About His Boss that way.)
Huh. Yeah, you're not wrong, about the Iliad and the Odyssey. I think we're meant to feel like the cost for Gen is having to be king at all, but we've had all of KoA to watch him suffer through being king and I don't ... feel that bad about it ...
Though I suppose this is admittedly my double standards, too, because a big part of the plot of KoA is "let's stop Irene from becoming the worst version of herself" and a big part of the plot of RotT is "let's stop Gen from becoming the worst version of himself" but I care so much more about the former than the latter.
