skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (twirly)
[personal profile] skygiants
Getting dressed in the morning these days makes me really happy. I think this is because I never really outgrew the loving to dress up in costumes thing, so when I wake up in the morning and put together an outfit, I sort of feel like I am dressing up as a character for the day! So, for example, when I wear a purple tunic sweater-dress and colorful stockings and tall boots, I am in disguise as a Trendy New Yorker; or when I am wearing a black skirt with a tulle overlayer and a short black jacket and the same tall black boots, I am being a Princess Goth Ballerina; or when I am wearing jeans and a giant falling-apart oversized sweater, it is a day when I can be a Casual Writer-Type; or when, as today, I am wearing a jean skirt and a white button-down and a navy sweater-vest, I am temporarily passing for the Preppiest Prep Who Ever Prepped. It helps that I have a job that lets me dress up nicely without feeling silly but does not particularly care about the particulars.

So yes, in other words, I am super-mature about Dressing Like a Grownup. :D

And now, stealing a question from [livejournal.com profile] schiarire but with a twist: who are you dressing as today?

Sometimes I take fashion tips from comic book characters -- I have dressed in faux Layla Miller (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Layla_Miller) style to be a scene kid once.

But today, like 99% of other days, I am in plain black pants (sometimes it is jeans) and a nerdy t-shirt. Lazy Student Type?

I am Trendsetter Working Hipster today! Black skirt with tuxedo stripes down the side, purple tights (from, gasp, American Apparel!), chunky wooden bracelet and new black heels with ankle-wrap with buttons that looks like I'm wearing spats. It's thrilling!

Seeing as how my socks are persisting in sliding down, and I just noticed a bit of a pesto sauce stain (that I thought I'd been able to remove) on my knit shirt, I think that Just Barely Professional [livejournal.com profile] gramarye1971 has decided to go into work today. *quiet woes*

Hahahahaha. With the un-producted hair, the Birkenstocks, and the fleece jacket tossed over unspecial business casual, I'm officially Low-Maintenance Coloradan Desk Jockey Sweeney. It is like a uniform around here, I swear.

I am well-dressed casual in computers and doesn't need a suit, thank you, attire today - nice jeans and a button down shirt in my favourite colours - blue, green and shiny! Ooh, shiny.

Today is also a hair down day. Win.

I am dressing like College Student, in a t-shirt and jeans. Which is my usual outfit when I'm not at work. I wish I had a job where I could dress all trendy, in a city where there were all sorts of trendy.

I'm still in my pyjamas. Fuzzy black pants FTW!

Although, these days I am also dressing as Girl Who Wears Color, So Suck It, Neighborhood Hipsters. I have a bright green fall jacket, and a giant teal bag, and sunglasses with dark blue (but not navy!) rims.

As I eye my torn jeans, mismatched socks and faded green fleece hoodie it occurs to me that the most apt answer is 'someone who got dressed in the dark,' but that's not very entertaining. Therefore I will throw in the hiking boots I just got on sale and decree that I am dressing as the casually recreational outdoorsy type. Perhaps it will inspire me to, oh, actually go hiking this weekend! :)

I usually dress as Girl Trying For Business Casual But Too In Love With Her Jeans And Stompyboots And The Fact That Her Workplace Lets Her Wear Them.

But today I am in corduroys! And... otherwise the same kind of outfit. So: gray corduroys, black stompy-heeled boots (which make me taller than I strictly need to be, but they are so comfortable), black knit shirt, chunky red cabled cardigan. And my standard silver necklace and silver-and-some-red-stone(-or-maybe-glass) earrings, and my hair tied back at the nape of my neck because I'm lazy.

I'm dressing as Lazy Grad Student Rymenhild today.

Even though I am Lazy Grad Student every day, I do not dress as Lazy Grad Student every day. I mean, today I am wearing one of my dingier sweaters with an equally dingy cardigan over it, over nice warm corduroys, huge tall socks and rain/moderate snow boots. The outfit says, "I do not care what my clothing looks like, for I am going to spend the day lost in thought, and it's really cold and damp in Rochester but I want to be warm and cozy so I can think deep dissertation thoughts."

Heee! I think that's an awesome way to approach it.

Today I'm dressed like 23 year old me, i.e. Dorky Dresser for Comfort - jeans, grey sweater with buttons on the shoulder, my Sketchers and my hair in braids. The lady at the checkout said my braids were "absolutely adorable", which is probably not good considering I'm 28 XD

Jeans, leather sandles, and a white and brown butterfly sleeve top, since its heading up to the 90s today. *makes face*

So, Hippish Casual? Eco-Friendly? Something. (ok, maybe not as much with the leather sandles.)

Today I am dressed as Needs To Do Laundry Girl! It's a snazzy look. -- Actually in a moment I will be putting on dress pants as they are the only pants I have that don't need washing, so maybe I feel like I am in costume. :O

I'm very sad that it's turning to winter, though! Winter here with my cold tolerance basically means wearing pants every day (and as I am anti-jeans, that means ... yoga/fleece/sweat pants every day) with as many tops as I can get to fit. I want to wear colorful tights instead! But maybe my "I will pretend leggings are tights and wear boots so nobody notices" strategy will still be warm enough in the winter, with sweater skirts/dresses. I gave this question a lot of thought during my first class today. I am a good student.

Today I am 'overslept sloppy grad student Meg."

Hair in a pony tail, with a head wrap to hid my untidy bangs, glasses, silver hoop earrings, a bulky blue zip cardigan, khaki pants, maroon docm martens, navy long sleeve tee.

I also have peanut butter and bike grease on my pants.

Yesterday I was sexy secretary from Mad Men, though. That was a much better look.

Rather belated but I think today I was being Grown Up Kate, jeans, a lovely black sweater my parents bought me in Paris, lovely necklace that [livejournal.com profile] pastrdiety made for me. Oh and also nice comfy ankle boots.

Then when I went out, I put on my elegant yet well loved leather jacket so I felt kind of mature as I walked during the windy day.

Ooh, ooh, I was dressed as Teacher At Professional Development Session today, in a fall sweater with colorful leaves, jeans, and my comfy black Merrills. Since I was at a staff retreat (professional development, natch), I did not have to dress as State Department Representative Business-y Type.

THIS POST IS AWESOME. If only because YAY SOMEONE ELSE DOES THAT COSTUME THING :D

I am Sloppy Day-Off Weaves today. I have epileptic-fit-inducing black-with-green-yellow-orange-red-pink-and-white hearts-all-over pyjama pants, a green singlet, and a bright orange-and-yellow head wrap. Tomorrow I will be Last-Day-At-Work Weaves in an actual suit and jacket (I look super cute inna suit, I have discovered) and will be feeling Xtra Professional all day because of it.

I suppooooose I should start being getting-dressed-to-go-out weaves, but i have like an hour before I have to leave the house!
