May. 21st, 2009 09:59 amThis afternoon I head off to Boston and then to Quebec for a long weekend of traveling, awesome people and joy! I have no idea how much internet capability/time for internet I will have before I come back Monday night, but my suspicion is not very much at all, so if there is anything you especially wish for me to see while I am gone you can drop me a link here.
In the meantime, as I try to pretend I am being productive at work until then: a writing meme! I have a lot of problems with the fic I am writing now (not least the fact that I still kind of feel GREAT SHAME for writing it at all) but there are definitely a few things I really like about it and that make me happy to think about. Which, I mean, is why we do creative enterprises, yes? It is a pleasant feeling.
So guys, if you are currently working on a creative project - whether it's a piece of fic or a novel or a painting or a comic or a massive RP plot or dance choreography or whatever - tell me something you really like about it! It will make me happy to read, and hopefully it will get you even more excited for working on it too. :D

Date: 2009-05-21 03:04 pm (UTC)My favorite thing about my newest creative project is that I was invited to collaborate with a published writer. Even if this endeavor doesn't go anywhere at all, which is the most likely outcome, I am delighted by it!
I'm still waiting to wake up and find out that this is a dream. :)

Date: 2009-05-21 03:09 pm (UTC)I will keep my fingers crossed that it ends up going where you want it to - that you will be in a position where you can tell us more one of these days, because whatever it is sounds fascinating. :D

Date: 2009-05-21 03:35 pm (UTC)And yes, as soon as it is to some stage where I can actually give something that resembles detail, I will.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:14 pm (UTC)I am telling myself that I will be inspired by your example and get in something like that many hours of writing on the bus, but that is probably a lie and I will most likely end up sleeping. All the same, it is something to aspire to!

Date: 2009-05-21 03:19 pm (UTC)You write on the bus? Egads, I am impressed. Too many people around for my tastes, and also my laptop would keep slipping off my lap. Unless you are writing longhand, in which case I am extra impressed, as my handwriting would quickly deteriorate into nothingness.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:35 pm (UTC)Oh, definitely not longhand (I cannot really write longhand at all these days - I just keep pining for the 'delete' key) - on the laptop, and yeah, the positioning can definitely be awkward. On the other hand, it's many hours in a confined space with limited distractions, and lack of distractions is good for making me write and not go faffling procrastinatorily all over the internet!

Date: 2009-05-21 03:36 pm (UTC)Although if you were to have the opportunity to actually hang out with them, I might advise not bringing up the part where they all die - it could put a damper on the mood.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:37 pm (UTC)Well...I am working on these (http://re-formed.livejournal.com/19103.html) two (http://cost-benefit.livejournal.com/2155.html) prompt tables for characters I rp
who happen to be from the same canon. I only really happy with one of the things I've done so far, but I'm getting more ideas and am hoping to get better with them!...Though I'm going to have to do some basic research on guns. Damn.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:41 pm (UTC)Ooooh, awesome. I tried one of those for an RP character once, and . . . failed miserably, but you I suspect will do much better! And it is awesome to have the excuse to write all the little snippets about the character that do not quite make it into RP. (I see what you did there, with the John le Carre references . . . *giggling*)
. . . . well, all knowledge is useful! Um, as long as you do not come to the attention of the government while performing it.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:50 pm (UTC)...That warning is so appropriate given these characters that I cracked up.

Date: 2009-05-21 03:59 pm (UTC)I am just saying! *HELPFUL*

Date: 2009-05-21 04:44 pm (UTC)But I want to practice it a lot before I take that step. So that is what I am working on, in pencil, on 8 1/2x11 paper. Over and over and over, until I don't feel like anything with paint is bound for failure.
If this actually comes out, it is the kind of thing that I will pay lots to frame and hang. If it comes out.

Someday I hope I will get to see it.

Date: 2009-05-23 04:09 am (UTC)AHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT WAS SO CREEPY
Also, damn. She has such a talent for populating a book with such unlikeable characters, and yet I can't stop reading to find out what happens.
Mary was pretty much just as creepy as Doro at the end, she just had less practice at it.
