skygiants: Nellie Bly walking a tightrope among the stars (bravely trotted)

This afternoon I head off to Boston and then to Quebec for a long weekend of traveling, awesome people and joy! I have no idea how much internet capability/time for internet I will have before I come back Monday night, but my suspicion is not very much at all, so if there is anything you especially wish for me to see while I am gone you can drop me a link here.

In the meantime, as I try to pretend I am being productive at work until then: a writing meme! I have a lot of problems with the fic I am writing now (not least the fact that I still kind of feel GREAT SHAME for writing it at all) but there are definitely a few things I really like about it and that make me happy to think about. Which, I mean, is why we do creative enterprises, yes? It is a pleasant feeling.

So guys, if you are currently working on a creative project - whether it's a piece of fic or a novel or a painting or a comic or a massive RP plot or dance choreography or whatever - tell me something you really like about it! It will make me happy to read, and hopefully it will get you even more excited for working on it too. :D

My favorite thing about my newest creative project is that I was invited to collaborate with a published writer. Even if this endeavor doesn't go anywhere at all, which is the most likely outcome, I am delighted by it!

I'm still waiting to wake up and find out that this is a dream. :)

Thank you!

And yes, as soon as it is to some stage where I can actually give something that resembles detail, I will.

I spent like three straight hours writing a fic yesterday and another 45 minutes this morning, I was v. pleased with myself :D Apparently it is easy and fun to write when pretty much all you are writing is dialogue! (I already knew this, but it's still nice.) I haven't checked the wordcount yet, but I think by the time it is done it will be of respectable length. (Read: maybe 4000 words, idk. That's totally respectable.) So this makes me happy.

There is not a lot of shouting in the fic, as that would probably result in someone getting pissy and killing a few thousand people, but if that were not the case there would probably be quite a bit of shouting. There's thinly-veiled derision, though!

You write on the bus? Egads, I am impressed. Too many people around for my tastes, and also my laptop would keep slipping off my lap. Unless you are writing longhand, in which case I am extra impressed, as my handwriting would quickly deteriorate into nothingness.

All of my cast! They are all really fun characters to write and to think about, and I would like to hang out with them and trade favorite books and perhaps apologize for the part where all of them die.

Ooh, have fun!

Well...I am working on these (http://re-formed.livejournal.com/19103.html) two (http://cost-benefit.livejournal.com/2155.html) prompt tables for characters I rp who happen to be from the same canon. I only really happy with one of the things I've done so far, but I'm getting more ideas and am hoping to get better with them!

...Though I'm going to have to do some basic research on guns. Damn.

I think about these characters way too much. >.> Though I'm going to have to get pretty creative with some prompt interpretation to make them possible, I suspect. But yes, it is actually making me think even more closely about Bourne's evolution in canon and about what Pam's backstory is! ...It will also allow for Bourne/Marie fluff. (I could not help myself. :P)

...That warning is so appropriate given these characters that I cracked up.

I also think the "20 things you didn't know about [character]" is a good way to nail down character thoughts and backstory. But it does not allow for futurestory or dialogue, and is thus not as flexible and fun as prompts.

It had to be said! *you are very helpful!*

*...is going to have to come up with ridiculous middle names for characters now*

And you succeed so well.

I... have recently only wrote a very short fic for [livejournal.com profile] varadia, and rewritten what I lost of an old OOM. Apparently I'm in more of a reading-mode right now. But I am pretty happy with how I wrote X-23... though for what this was, I should probably be able to do that by now.

Well, Lynne will really have to be the judge of it, but I think it's more that I can get her down in terms of Elle-X interaction. I definitely wouldn't be able to write X if she were interacting with anyone else.

I need to work on a creative project. I don't have any open right now, except my dissertation, and I think that's a problem I ought to fix.

There is a mental image I keep dreaming about that's totally dorky, but it's the kind of thing that would look really neat painted plain -- in acrylic on pressboard that you'd get from Home Depot, I mean. The point of it isn't that it would look sweepingly haunting, it's that it's simple, faintly surreal, and makes me happy.

But I want to practice it a lot before I take that step. So that is what I am working on, in pencil, on 8 1/2x11 paper. Over and over and over, until I don't feel like anything with paint is bound for failure.

If this actually comes out, it is the kind of thing that I will pay lots to frame and hang. If it comes out.

If I can get it to coalesce properly -- and that is still a ways and many drafts away, but -- my big creative project is going to end up being an odd sort of love story disguised as an equally odd crime/detective story. For some reason, I find that very neat.

I am pleased with all of my brand new characters who have erupted into my eyaific. Someone mentioned in the feedback meme that sometimes my ideas overtake my characters and I DO NOT THINK I AM MAKING THAT MISTAKE HERE, largely because the characters are so talkative.

Biggest shriek:

AHHHHHHHHHHHH THAT WAS SO CREEPY

Also, damn. She has such a talent for populating a book with such unlikeable characters, and yet I can't stop reading to find out what happens.

Mary was pretty much just as creepy as Doro at the end, she just had less practice at it.
