Having finished Ouran last night, I have but this to say, as I previously flailed to Mir: I have never watched anything that made me feel so much like a girl.

It's really rather disconcerting.

OKAY, SO, a girl who looks like a boy, and who everyone thinks is a boy, although she wasn't originally pretending to be a boy, accidentally breaks something expensive belonging to the Ouran Academy [High School] Host Club. This is a collection of anime stereotypes who sell their ability to woo women as an extracurricular activity. You have the cold, intelligent bastard in glasses type (Kyouya), the twins who seem way way too into each other (Hikaru and Kaoru), the tall dark silent type (Mori) and his counterpart in all terrible doujinshi, the 'lolishota' type, i.e., a boy who looks and behaves like an elementary school-aged child despite whatever his real age is (Honey). Most importantly, there is the delusional romancer/genuine lover of women (Tamaki), whose idea the whole shebang is.

The girl-boy from the first sentence is a scholarship student at this extremely expensive, extremely classist private school, and so has to work off her debt to the Host Club by working for them as -- I would guess -- a Boy Next Door type. Her name is Haruhi.

If you're familiar with Yami no Matsuei or Weiss Kreuz, I can break it down a lot easier through the cunning use of parallels.

I once watched the entire series of Yami no Matsuei in a single marathon sitting. So, I am somewhat familiar with it, yes.
