General update
Feb. 6th, 2007 01:31 amDay 1 of crazy midterm-y week down! Essay for Wednesday written, because I'm awesome and plan ahead. By a day. Shut up, that's good for me. Writing project for tomorrow also written and just needs to be uploaded, after wrestling with text-to-speech programs for two hours (and triumphing! Thank you, Jo, for help!) Two more days and a quiz, a presentation, another essay and a shot-by-shot scene analysis to go, which I've already mostly written and just need to type up and figure out where I'm missing a shot. I am totally on top of this.
In other news, because lots of work means lots of procrastination:
. . . all right, so I'm kind of hooked and I don't know why. Maybe it's the wacky alien tech.
- Ianto is totally best, and I want to see more of him. He looks good in a suit!
- I like John Barrowman better here than I did in Doctor Who, for some reason. Not that I disliked him in Doctor Who or anything, he just didn't do anything for me in particular. I think I have inner resistance to characters being described on-screen as omghottestthingever. Torchwood does not have as many characters talking about Jack's hotness! Conversely, I therefore find him more so, although he's still not my type. And I like him more as a character. Manpain and all.
- Ensembleness makes me happy.
- I am rather annoyed that Suzy's alien-tech murder spree and Owen's alien-tech date rape were equated with Tosh's alien-tech . . . scanning books into her computer. Books do not have consent issues. If I had that tech I'd totally abuse it. Unless there was something way more sinister going on there that I missed.
- Owen's garden-wall-jumping chase sequence may be my favorite bit yet, in that I found it hilarious. Run, Owen, run! The sheer ridiculousness made me warm to Owen after wanting to slap him for the first two episodes, so that is also a good thing.
- I wish that the rest of the team in 1x02 had, you know, mentioned Suzy at all. Team member goes crazy and starts killing people! You would think they would have a reaction! That being said, I have gathered that the Suzy-issue does return, so I am slightly mollified.
- I was going to say something about Gwen, but . . . I don't have much to say about Gwen at this point, really. She's a Viewpoint Character and Stand-In For the Audience. Her job is to follow leads that would get us curious, even if we perhaps might be smarter than to actually follow them, were we in her position, and she does that pretty well thus far. I have no beef with her.
In conclusion: I am enjoying, and will be continuing to watch. Along with BSG. And Dr. Who S2, which I am still not caught up on. My list is so long, my life is so hard.
