skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (I am made of awesome!)

Day 1 of crazy midterm-y week down! Essay for Wednesday written, because I'm awesome and plan ahead. By a day. Shut up, that's good for me. Writing project for tomorrow also written and just needs to be uploaded, after wrestling with text-to-speech programs for two hours (and triumphing! Thank you, Jo, for help!) Two more days and a quiz, a presentation, another essay and a shot-by-shot scene analysis to go, which I've already mostly written and just need to type up and figure out where I'm missing a shot. I am totally on top of this.

In other news, because lots of work means lots of procrastination:

. . . all right, so I'm kind of hooked and I don't know why. Maybe it's the wacky alien tech.

- Ianto is totally best, and I want to see more of him. He looks good in a suit!

- I like John Barrowman better here than I did in Doctor Who, for some reason. Not that I disliked him in Doctor Who or anything, he just didn't do anything for me in particular. I think I have inner resistance to characters being described on-screen as omghottestthingever. Torchwood does not have as many characters talking about Jack's hotness! Conversely, I therefore find him more so, although he's still not my type. And I like him more as a character. Manpain and all.

- Ensembleness makes me happy.

- I am rather annoyed that Suzy's alien-tech murder spree and Owen's alien-tech date rape were equated with Tosh's alien-tech . . . scanning books into her computer. Books do not have consent issues. If I had that tech I'd totally abuse it. Unless there was something way more sinister going on there that I missed.

- Owen's garden-wall-jumping chase sequence may be my favorite bit yet, in that I found it hilarious. Run, Owen, run! The sheer ridiculousness made me warm to Owen after wanting to slap him for the first two episodes, so that is also a good thing.

- I wish that the rest of the team in 1x02 had, you know, mentioned Suzy at all. Team member goes crazy and starts killing people! You would think they would have a reaction! That being said, I have gathered that the Suzy-issue does return, so I am slightly mollified.

- I was going to say something about Gwen, but . . . I don't have much to say about Gwen at this point, really. She's a Viewpoint Character and Stand-In For the Audience. Her job is to follow leads that would get us curious, even if we perhaps might be smarter than to actually follow them, were we in her position, and she does that pretty well thus far. I have no beef with her.

In conclusion: I am enjoying, and will be continuing to watch. Along with BSG. And Dr. Who S2, which I am still not caught up on. My list is so long, my life is so hard.

Woohoo for Torchwood-watching!

I may criticise, rant and pick it to pieces every single time, but I love it really. :)

Also, I have to say I agree with you. TWJack may be COMPLETELY INSANE (it comes up later) but he's more his own character rather than thrown in beside the Doctor and Rose as 'hey look at this neat thing!'

There, he was The Bisexual Daring One. In Torchwood, blooming everyone is, so he can be a character.

--In DW, I really, really like the dynamic between Jack, Rose, and the Doctor--I'm a sucker for Fun With Group Dynamics anytime (I do it with Team Torchwood, too), and I think those three in particular complement each other in fun and interesting ways. But as far as Jack as a Character In His Own Right goes, I like TW!Jack better, too.

--Re: Rest of the team not mentioning Suzie in 1x02: I really wish me got more of a look at the transition from Suzie to Gwen in general--the others finding out Suzie's dead, finding out Gwen's joining up, etc. All we really get is them sheepishly bringing back their alien tech.

--Owen keeps making me want to punch him and then having sudden outbursts of awesome. He's frustrating, but he's fun.

--Iano is the best. *snuggles him*

*sighs as she thradcrashes*

Yes, and that, sadly, keeps happening - there is little connection from one episode to the next, particularly if your name is not Gwen. But even with her we largely miss out a lot of transition from one situation to the next. Have you seen Small Worlds yet? If not, I won't spoiler, but the ending had such an effect on me (as Jack's mun as well as a viewer) and yet the week after... Nowt.

*sigh*

Oh well. Fanfic! Fanfic! And threads!

--I would say that's why there's so much fic that takes place in between "The Doctor Dances" and "Boomtown", but...I think there'd be fic anyway. But that's the main reason I read fic set in that timeframe, to see how other people play with the dynamic. But it's another bit like there's lots of in Torchwood, with the Doctor and Jack being all suspicion and disapproval and who-gets-to-dance-with-Rose and screwdrivers-vs.-blasters-vs.-bananas, and then suddenly they're all BFF in Cardiff. I can look at their characters and extrapolate how it happens, but I wouldn't have minded seeing it happen in canon.
