skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (*_*)
[personal profile] skygiants
Thing the first and MOST IMPORTANT: I WILL LOVE [livejournal.com profile] genarti FOREVER AND EVER, and THIS IS WHY.

(Okay, there are in fact COUNTLESS reasons why, but Fullmetal Alchemist ANGST BINGO CARDS are high up there on that list! No spoilers, MUCH HILARITY.)

Thing the second: [livejournal.com profile] in_the_blue tagged me for a meme!

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 4 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag five people.

"But the kai el'Sol had spoken.

Jevri attended them, boy and girl; Jevri made clear - to the wife, not the husband - that the boy's welfare and sanity depended on her ability to keep him still. Jevri was wise, and although Marakas had acknowledged that fact from the first day they had met, he found it a surprise and a blessing to be so often reacquainted with the knowledge.

As for himself, he was given leave to draw his sword.
"

- Michelle West, The Riven Shield

(Oh, Michelle West. I am very fond of your books, but this passage does not really show off your deathless prose. It does show off your fondness for Ridiculous Fantasy Names, however. My favorite is how the commanders of the army are named Valedan kai di'Leonne, Ellora AKalakar . . . and Bruce Allen.)

I am not tagging five people. Instead I will say, if you have a book near you right now and you are reading this, just do it! I have an insatiable curiosity about what people are reading.

Thing the third: [livejournal.com profile] shoroko tagged me for another meme!

Rules: List seven eight songs ([livejournal.com profile] birdseyeview added one) you are into right now. No matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now, shaping your fall (winter?). Post these instructions in your LJ along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to. (Still not tagging people. But do it if you want!)

This is a long one and so I am putting it under a cut.

1. River Town, Live (Lyrics)

you'd better turn back before the frost sets in
these desert nights are for weathered men
the ones who've already given in

As with many songs, I fell in love with this one when I started mentally planning out a vid to it. Now every time it comes up, I go back and listen to it and mentally align it with footage. But also, it is just so much more epic than the apparent theme would suggest.

2. C'est La Vie, Coralie Clement (Lyrics

c’est la vie qu’on mène
on baigne dans son sang tout baigne

This is a cute, quirky song in French with lyrics that occasionally jump all of a sudden into the incredibly creepy without you noticing! Because it's a cute, quirky song in French.

3. Seed of Wonder, Jesca Hoop (Lyrics)

ah oh ah no ah - all i want is to be writing
to be writing

once that wish did land
like a star in my hand - it burned and it burned and it burrowed in

Jesca Hoop is a recent musical discovery of mine and I have fallen kind of in love with her. This is my favorite of her songs, but I could listen to almost any of them forever.

4. Downfall, Matchbox 20 (Lyrics)

here we go again
ashamed of being broken in

This is another song I did not actually care about that much, and then I got a vid for it in my head and it won't go away now. "But it's so deep!" I explain to myself, upon which I then respond to myself, "Self, it is the same lyrics over and over." But I don't care, I love it anyways.

5. Blue (Da Ba Dee), Max Raabe and the Palaas Orchester (Lyrics)

And everything is blue for him and hisself
And everybody around
Cos he ain't got nobody to listen to

[livejournal.com profile] schiarire sent me a CD of Max Raabe songs when I first moved into my new apartment to distract me from moving-stress. And THAT IT CERTAINLY DID. Max Raabe basically covers pop songs in German cabaret style. It is GLORIOUS. *_* Oops . . . I Did It Again is the most brain-twisty, but this one is the one that gets stuck in my head the most.

6. Don't Stop Me Now, Queen (Lyrics)

i'm burning through the sky yeah!
two hundred degrees
that's why they call me mister fahrenheit

Something about the lyric "That's why they call me Mister Fahrenheit" cracks me up every time! Also it makes me want to chairdance. Look, I like Queen, okay, I never said I had claims to taste!

7. The Setting of the Sun, Seth Lakeman (Lyrics)

come all young fellows that carry a gun,
beware of late shooting when the daylight is done.
it is my reckoning that many hazards they may run.
I shot my true love at the setting of the sun

This is another one that makes me start giggling every time I hear it. Look, sometimes, you're having a rough day, you mistake your girlfriend for a swan, you accidentally shoot her. IT COULD HAPPEN TO ANYONE.

8. Listen, Tryad (Lyrics)

are we now finally seeing
what we’ve been always being

Sometimes, I want to listen to loud dancing music; sometimes I want to listen to quiet, whispery music, and this song falls into the second category.

Thing the fourth: no seriously, I'm still expiring of joy over the bingo cards.

*ahem*

'If he fails to show up, the agency loses the bail loan, and may send bounty hunters after the character.

Bail amounts vary dramatically, depending on the seriousness of the crime, the suspect's criminal history, his role in society, his family life, and other factors the judge believes indicate that the character will or will not flee (or commit other crimes) before his trial. An upstanding citizen with a good job and a family, who has never before been charged with a crime gets minimal bail; a career criminal with nothing to lose gets maximum bail, or may not be granted bail at all. The purchase DCs shown assume the suspect is viewed positively by the court.'

Not the most riveting reading, I give you. But I don't think Anna is going to arrest you guys, so.

No! That was just page 123!

...but that wouldn't be a bad plot point for later...

The actual nearest book is manga, but the nearest straight prose book:

...Has less than five sentences before the rest of the page is a photo. (It's my village book.) Uh.

Okay, the next-nearest to that:

"I have seen. I will do what I can."
Hadand's expression eased. Her husband's remained inscrutable.

GO ON GUESS WHAT THAT MIGHT BE.

Hmmm.....

' "What is it?" asked the P.I. nervously. The instrument looked like a weapon, and even though Luc was mesmerized, Cudgeon did not have enough magic to completely bury the Parisian's nature. The P.I. might be devious, but he was not a killer.

"It's a special camera Luc, that's all." '

-Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident

...yeah, sure. I'll let you figure that out. X3

I actually just finished this. :3

It's best to take the gung-ho attitude and read them all at once! (I say, for that is my current method. I'm somewhat through a third of book three since last night.)

I have no books nearby. D: Though I do have a question for you, seeing as you read more YA books than anyone I know -- have you read Ash by Malinda Lo? Is it good??

I must share my glee at the presence of Michelle West (who I am also currently reading)!

...Also I have finally started seriously reading FMA (I finished volume 4 earlier today), and am adoring it so much, and adore those bingo cards so much.

YES! It is filling me with JOY. I love West's characters so much.

THAT IS WHAT I HEAR, AND I CAN BELIEVE IT. And yes, I have read [incredibly sad spoiler], which was shocking and heartbreaking and which I kinda absolutely adored.

Alina is totally my second favorite in The Sun Sword. Only Teresa is above her.

Well, I very much saw [spoiler] coming, but it was done so well. And then that scene with Roy. ;_;

(I am 100% certain that Riza is going to become one of mine as well, from the vague things I know about the rest of the series. Though at the moment, my favorite is Hughes*. Followed by Al.)

*Okay, so one of the reasons I saw [spoiler] coming was "Hmm, Hughes is rapidly becoming my favorite. ...This will totally result in [spoiler].

*tries to remember if they do...*

"Yes sir. It is raining very hard. On your face."

(And he is the levelheaded brother! And while that storyline is a little ridiculous, I kinda love it. Partly because it speaks of not-actually-robot existential ANGST. ...Which I, er, may be slightly inclined towards due to the large amounts of Pluto in my life at the moment.)

Two amazing books! :D

"You're welcome, sir."

(Al is like...The Teller to Ed's Jewel. Or something. I am beginning to suspect I did not get enough sleep last night. And I noticed that and I kinda love it! XD)

I believe she's planning on four House War books, two before the events of The Sun Sword and two after. But then, there were originally supposed to be three books in The Sun Sword. So we'll see how this goes. XD And man, I need to read the Hunters duology so badly.

(Yes! (...I AM WEAK.) That is an excellent point. I suppose it does! And I love Morretz, and the Terafin, so!)

The closest book is a manga, and the page only has one line:

"YOU MAY THINK IT'S A MEANS TO HELP PEOPLE AND BRING THEM HAPPINESS - BUT NO ONE ELSE SEES IT THAT WAY!!"

- Scar, Fullmetal Alchemist Volume 15

The closest book that isn't a manga:

Barrywood had said that our unknown was supplied by a boy. It was on his track, and not upon the convict's, that Frankland had stumbled. If I could get his knowledge it might save me a long and weary hunt. But incredulity and indifference were evidently my strongest cards.
