So I finally got my hands on the comic version of The Middleman: The Doomsday Armageddon Apocalypse! And okay, it feels so weird saying this, but . . . . I was a little disappointed? I mean, it was the Middleman! I loved it despite disappointment! But it felt very weird to me that the planned final episode was all about the Middleman and his backstory angst and his Ultimate Sacrifice and so forth, when I always read (and love) the show overall as having Wendy as the protagonist. Wendy didn't really get to save the day at all! And that made me kind of sad. But perhaps I am overthinking.

However that does not mean I love the show overall any less, and, to prove it, a poll:

Most important character development: Wendy saves the day on her own, start to finish, as the Middleman with all the backing and skills that implies. (Something took Clarence out of commission temporarily, or the like--but instead of a classic "I'm in over my head," Wendy proves she has been paying attention. Maybe she's even read the regs.)

I am still so upset that I didn't catch the last five minutes of the Live Read Through of the final episode at last years Comic Con.

--that is a very valid point about the comic finale and I kind of wonder why I never noticed it, except for the part where I only ever saw the finale at the live reading at Comic-Con and maybe I was a little too starstruck to notice. (Matt Keeslar's forearms! Mark Sheppard mugging for the nonexistent camera! Lacey with red hair!) That being said, ANIMATED EPISODE. AND MUSICAL EPISODE.

I would totally have been just as starstruck seeing it live, no lie. I mean. Everyone! Live! For real! I will probably be pretty starstruck whenever I get around to watching it on youtube too, so in a way I am glad I read the comic first.

BUT HONESTLY I was really hoping to see an amnesia episode in which the Middleman gets amnesia and we see him as who he is when he is neither emotionally damaged nor making his daily decision. And I was really hoping to meet Wendy's Cuban relatives. Or just hear more Cuban diaspora jokes in general, because those just never get old.

Any of this would have been AMAZING. Wendy's relatives! I almost put 'Wendy's mom' and 'Wendy's mysteriously vanished dad' as check-box options on the poll and . . . am kind of not sure why I didn't, now. (Actually yes, I am also kind of surprised there was no amnesia episode in the episodes we had . . .)
