So episode seven gave us another landslide victory, as Mr. Sun Woo Wan and his expert deployment of gingham swept the polls:



Which is kind of funny, because in my opinion, the gingham cannot EVEN COMPARE to the suit Woo Wan is rocking in episode eight.



1.

WOO WAN. WHAT. WHAT ARE YOU DOING.



Look at him just sitting there, sipping tea in HIDEOUS FULL-BODY PLAID, like, oh yeah, it's cool. BUT IT'S NOT COOL. IS IT.



I'm not sure, but I think the addition of a formal evening jacket might just make it worse. I can only describe this ensemble as 'black tie pajama party'.



Seriously, dude, Lee Su Hyun can't even look at you. HE IS AFRAID HE WILL BE BLINDED. BY PLAID.



And you wonder why you spend this episode unlucky in love! SIR, THIS IS NO WAY TO WIN A LADY'S HEART.

Man, I need to soothe my eyes with something pretty now. On to Cha Song Joo!

2.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to get a good shot of this dress of Cha Song Joo's, seeing as she apparently only wears it for secret plotting in dark cabins. Which is a shame because it's gorgeous and I kind of love it.



I think that's a pagoda on the sleeve, but I'm not sure.



And . . . flowers on the back? The back and front of this dress don't actually seem to match really, and I see no sign of the pink sash in any other photographs, but not even Cha Song Joo could pull off changing right in the middle of a strategy meeting, right? . . . . right?

3.

Speaking of pink sashes, I think the one on this hanbok is just a trick of the light. But the green and orange color combination is still pretty epic, I have to say.



Then again, the embroidery and detail work is actually gorgeous enough that it might actually convince me to wear orange. And I hate orange! So well played, Cha Song Joo.

4.

Besides, the orange kind of pales next to Sachiko's YELLOW.



And, I mean, while the YELLOW and the ruffles might not be enough to push it over the other contenders by itself . . . that hat! I mean, a yellow straw hat, fine. A yellow straw hat with a bright pink flower that is ALSO WOVEN OUT OF STRAW, that is starting to verge on the surreal.

5.

I feel like Woo Wan's mom has opted for the Goth look today pretty much in a self-defense reaction to the YELLOW, honestly.



It's kind of amazingly sinister, which is ironic considering that she wears this during what is arguably her most awesome moment in the series. I love you, Mrs. Sun! I don't care that you're a completely amoral social climber most of the time, I THINK YOU'RE FABULOUS. And so is your ability to put together an ensemble.

. . . but I'm still not sure any of these can compete with the PLAID.

I love these and recently I was having lunch at a new Korean place and a K-Drama was showing in the background and I thought of you.

I also wished I knew Korean so I could understand what was going on.

I'm disappointed that the jacket was not also plaid! As is, it's either black tie pajamas, as you say, or a riff on a classic boys' school uniform. Either way, the solid black jacket hurts the ensemble. So I voted for Mrs. Sun's goth attire, largely out of love for her cloche.

You know, I see your point (and I do love Mrs. Sun's cloche!) but I have to say, I can only be grateful he did NOT add a plaid jacket to the ensemble. OR I MIGHT NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING BUT PLAID IN MY EYES EVER AGAIN.

THEORETICALLY, since the gingham is a shirt and the plaid is a suit, it is possible that he could wear both at once!
