Annihilation is definitely very creepy, but more in a ... Here We Pan Slowly Over A Very Unnerving Visual With A Very Unnerving Implication, less in a OH NO WHERE'S THE THING OH NO IT'S THERE!!! sort of way. Which is still very creepy!

The visuals in Wrinkle in Time are pretty spectacular! Uriel, in particular -- the camera panning over The World's Most Beautiful Planet is pretty amazing. But I went with a large group of people who mostly loved the book, and all of us did spend about 15 minutes standing around talking wistfully about things from the book we wish they'd put in after we got out.
