Jun. 2nd, 2018 08:59 amWe just finished the MOST feel-good show about misogyny, domestic violence and police corruption I've ever seen. It's called Tenchu and it makes absolutely no sense, but it's so dang cute!
The premise: a female ninja named Sana has mysteriously and accidentally time-traveled to the present day....

...possibly my favorite fact about the show is that it takes at least four episodes for Sana to actually realize that this is what has happened.
ANYWAY. Within very short order, Sana is recruited by .... Masako, a nice grandma who decides to use Sana's ninja skills to perform vigilante justice on evildoers ignored by the police, such as abusive husbands and people who scam the elderly, WHILE ALSO giving her home-cooked meals on the regular!

Eventually the vigilante gang also expands to include the instructor of Masako's eldercare karate class, a friendly local deliveryman, and the drag queen who owns the local gay bar where they all hang out.

Masako's other grandma friends also occasionally lend a helping hand with investigations.

It's like Leverage, if Nate Ford was a sweet elderly woman who just wanted to feed your face, Parker was a very confused time-traveler, and instead of genius con plans, everything always hinged on a ninja or two waiting until the ABSOLUTE MOST DRAMATIC MOMENT to hurl themselves out of hiding and start doing gratuitous flips.
The overarching series mysteries involving time travel and Masako's long-lost daughter make no sense and are never resolved within the eight episodes of the season, but, I mean ... don't come for the overarching series mysteries, come to watch a grandma launch her adopted ninja daughter on various revenge quests while teaching her about the power of friendship!
