skygiants: Princess Tutu, facing darkness with a green light in the distance (cosmia)

While on the topic of ghost-related kdramas, last week [personal profile] tenillypo and I finished watching The Master's Sun, about a woman whose life has fallen apart because she's constantly accosted by ghosts with a sense of entitlement, and the wealthy mall owner with PTSD-induced dyslexia (no, I don't know either) who has the mysterious ability to stop her from seeing ghosts when she touches him.

While at first Our Hero is deeply irritated by having a wild-eyed woman following him around screaming and grabbing his arms, it soon turns out that not only does he have a tragic past that a ghost hunter might be able to help him out with, he ALSO owns the most haunted mall in Korea. Hijinks and personal growth ensue!

I liked but did not love this drama overall -- the romance is pretty decent, but the whole thing falls apart a little at the end. However, I did wholeheartedly love MANY of the ghosts; there are lots and they are good. Top five ghosts in the series, ranked:

#5: the ghost of an overworked housewife who's not actually dead, just enjoying her haunting of a really nice hotel too much to wake up from her coma

#4: the ghost of a very good dog who loves kpop

#3: the ghost of a closeted transwoman who wants our heroine to make sure she's not outed after her death; we love and support her (the show handles this about as well as one could expect of a kdrama, which is to say, we were pleasantly surprised that it was not worse)

#2: the ghost of an angsty musician's supportive, beautiful, and tragically dead wife who possesses the heroine for the sole purpose of telling her husband that while it was entertaining for a while watching him completely fall apart without her, he should probably by this point get the memo that he's not Artistic, just lazy. Then she spends some time casually trolling the hero for kicks before wandering off to, presumably, star in her own show as an undead trickster goddess

#1 Trash Can Ghost, a ghost who does nothing but sit on a bench in the mall and irritably bang on a trash can lad, and somehow manages to parlay this singular skill into a role as the ultimate supportive bro. By the end of the series, we were rooting for Trash Can Ghost to be best man at the wedding of the series protagonists; he had earned it

I am sorry the show was not as good as its ghosts, because those ghosts are fantastic.

(Thankfully, she doesn't.)

I am glad to hear the happy ending of this series involves a lot of nudnik ghosts not going anywhere.
