I was sitting there going, 'Okay, who are our options for baby-daddy? Pretty much Gaius, Gaeta, Lee, and HOT DOG OH MAN THAT WOULD BE HILARIOUS except I don't think they remember that he exists.' AND THEN THEY DID. And it was, indeed, HILARIOUS.
Gaeta's current characterization for me is - okay, I like Gaeta a lot and always have, so I'm treating it kind of like I treated Tory's characterization in my head, which is doing a lot of mental twists to see it from his perspective and make it make sense!
Oh, I agree that it makes perfect sense from his perspective. Everyone's reaction makes sense when you consider that the whole journey was a faith-based move and it didn't pan out. So regardless of whether or not anything could be foreseen, they're going to hang someone out to dry for it.
But I still don't like it, though it makes me respect the hell out of the writers for doing what the story calls for. I think Gaeta has a lot of depth, but I still wanted to wring his little weasel neck when he perjured himself in court!
I just kind of want to pat him on the head and lock him up in a room somewhere with a pile of cookies until he's calmed down. (The cookies are obviously an essential ingredient. Can you imagine how long it's been since anyone on the Galactica had chocolate?)
OMG! That's it exactly! The trouble with the Colonial Fleet is that they have no chocolate. Let the Cylons come up with a brilliant new way to develop chocolate and the Fleet will BEG them to join them!
Ah! I bow to your brilliance, Madam.
(And yes, Gaeta needs cookies. And tea. And perhaps some yarn. We can teach him to knit stump cozies! [Oooooooooo, snap!])
