skygiants: Azula from Avatar: the Last Airbender with her hands on Mai and Ty Lee's shoulders (team hardcore)
It's IBARW! When it comes to deep and thoughtful posts - of which I have seen a ton of awesome ones this year already - I think it is probably better for me to shut up and listen and read, and which I am very much doing.

Fangirling, however, is something I am always happy to do - so without further ado, I present to you some TV ladies who are both a.) completely awesome and b.) not white. I am not even saying 'top five' because there are no rankings, just the first ones I could think of and easily find images of.

Cut for length and images, but you should click through anyway. )

That is a whole lot of awesome up in there, right? SO MUCH awesome, one post cannot contain it! (No, really, it can't - I had to cut off at five because I'm at work and can't do this all day, much as I would like to, but there are so many more not even contained here. Martha Jones, Jessie from SCC, all of the Ugly Betty ladies - the list goes on and on. And that's only the shows I know, without delving into Sun from Lost or Cam and Angela from Bones or anyone from any of the five million police procedurals I am not watching. My point is, they're out there. And they're amazing.)

One more thing, however, to point out: almost all of these ladies are the only woman of color on their main casts. Some of them are in fact the only person of color in their entire cast.

Now take a moment to imagine the sheer awesome that would be two of these ladies in the same show together.

Better yet: imagine a whole show with this cast.

Whitewashing fiction doesn't make it stronger - it does the opposite. Obviously many, many people have said this before, and said it better than me. But it bears repeating anyways.

Okay, so! Now there is a little bit of distance: BSG )

I have not actually started on my Yuletide fic yet; this is because I swore to myself I would finish the last fic I was working on first, which has been stalled forever and ever because I kind of hate it. This is that finally-finished fic - a long, introspective and disorganized Battlestar Galactica fic, entirely Tory-centric. The problems with this are manifold, namely, 1.) I suck at writing dark and introspective stories; 2.) I suspect that the people other than me who are interested in reading long, dark and introspective Tory fic number approximately 0; 3.) everything that I wanted to say in the fic could probably have been better said as a piece of character-analysis meta, because there is nothing new in it, only perspective on events that happened in the series. But it came out as a fic anyways.

Basically, I have always liked Tory and I hate the places her character arc went. I felt the need to write this to try and make it comprehensible. Spoilers through to the most recent episode of Battlestar Galactica.

On an entirely different note: I have finally finished all the fics from the prompts I requested from you guys like two months ago. Slow and steady? Um. ANYWAYS. For completeness' sake, and for anyone who may have missed theirs, I am going to link them all here! If some of them are insane, that is because you guys ASKED FOR INSANE THINGS.

Looking at length, possibly I should put this under a cut. )

So, uh. That does not look like ridiculous amounts of fic for two months for you productive types, probably, but it feels like a lot to me!

Okay, this was and is going to be a booklogging post, but first I have to express my glee over BSG )

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming. I have been trying to get myself into the habit of reading more nonfiction now that I am not having regularly scheduled learnings, so I picked up Melanie Rehak's Girl Sleuth: Nancy Drew and the Women Who Created Her. Opinions under cut. )

Also, now that I have finished all the nonfiction books in my to-read pile, if you have any nonfiction book recs to throw at me I would appreciate it!

There are days when I feel that the only way to cope with Battlestar Galactica is to write wacky OOC fic.

So! Spoilers for the end of S3.

So this REALLY isn't my fault. And to prove it, a log )

And that is why I wrote this BSG fic. )
