skygiants: Pique, Duck and Lilie, from Princess Tutu. HUGS FOR EVERYONE (group hug!)

I really probably should have waited to read Flora's Dare: How a Girl of Spirit Gambles All to Expand Her Vocabulary, Confront a Bouncing Boy Terror, and Try to Save Califa From a Shaky Doom (Despite Being Confined To Her Room) until more than a month after I read Flora's Dare . . . because now there are no more Flora books, and who knows when the next one will be! D:

Once again, the title is a pretty good recommendation for the book, although it fails to mention some of my favorite things, like:

- the tentacle monster that first appears in the toilet at a rock concert
- ZOMBIE POWDER
- Flora hanging out even more with awesome ladies, such as her semi-fanatical sister Idden (still not enough of her, but I want to see more!) and the amazing new character TINY DOOM
- the fact that Flora has put on weight from the first book and is verging on the chubby, and is totally fine with that! When was the last time I read a book where the teen-girl protagonist realized that her stays were too tight, and instead of launching on an angst-laden rant about her body image was just like "stupid stays, I have really got to get around to buying a larger pair!" I love Flora.
- STREETCAR LINES. CRAZY HILLS. TWIN PEAKS. Califa continues to be even more explicitly alt!San Francisco, and I love it

Also, how much do I love the fact that Poppy's de-crazification, instead of making Flora's family into a happy nuclear one, turns him into almost as much of a freak in the other direction? Almost as much as I love the implied friendship and lack of rivalry between Azota and Buck! And not quite as much as I am looking forward to the reappearance of Azota - even though the fact that she is alive sort of makes for a major plot hole as far as the giant squid is concerned.

My biggest concern is that I'm still not sure where Wilce is going as far as the Aztecs are concerned; she seems to be ambiguous-ing their motives to a certain degree, but at the same time, we had a villainous Aztec again here, and he is the one who was sympathetic from last time, so . . . . I don't know. Even though, again, he might legitimately be working for the common good. Anyway, in short, I'll be really annoyed if she goes the "they are all evil and scheming and out for their own ends and totally pro-human sacrifice" in the sequel! But I very much hope that she is too good for that.
