A PROS/CONS LIST

Pros of rereading Kage Baker's Company Books:

1. MENDOZA, best antisocial cyborg botanist lady protagonist ever
2. The centuries that Lewis spends earnestly writing fanfic
3. Joseph and Lewis: Wacky Cyborg Road Trip (Wacky Cyborgs Get Drunk On Chocolate! Wacky Cyborgs Visit Famous Literary Sites!)
4. Latif and his fine, fine self
5. Van Drouten and her fine, fine self
6. Nan and Kalugin, Cyborg OTP
7. My eternal desire to give Juan Bautista and Porfirio enormous hugs
8. The same for Victor, except if I did I would probably get the plague
9. Lolhistory!
10. Lolfilm history!
11. PRINCESS TIANA PARAKEET
12. Immortal cyborg William Randolph Hearst

Cons of rereading Kage Baker's Company Books:

1. Edward Alton Bell-Fairfax, WORST VICTORIAN EVER
2. That whole book where Mendoza is brainwashed and has foursomes with her three dead ex-boyfriends and then one of the dead ex-boyfriends implants the other two as fetuses in her womb
3. That other whole book where they then turn into cyborg versions of Mary and the Holy Trinity
4. The fact that if I do this thing I can't even skip that last book, because PRINCESS TIANA PARAKEET

I actually thought immortal cyborg William Randolph Hearst was kind of a weird late addition, but I am glad his appearance was a plus for someone!

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

Re: your cons list:

Okay, #2 is the last one, right, _The Sons of Heaven_, also where Mendoza says "I can't honestly say he raped me" and the book nearly launched itself out of my hands and into the wall (I can quote here because I was really really angry about the book and wrote it down).

Have I blocked #3 out of my mind entirely or is that the post-_Sons_ book she published that fit somewhere else in the series that I just didn't care about?

(Also, wait, I just looked at your author tag--_Empress of Mars_ was a Company story? Now I have to go look at the original novella and see if I missed the connection or if it was added in after.)

AS LONG AS YOU KNOW, IT'S OKAY.

(Also, now I feel old, I read the first one sometime toward the end of college. . . . okay, I'm done now.)

I propose a FANWANK REREAD of the Company stories. Like this:

Whenever something amazing happens, applaud it! Whenever something disgusting happens, figure out what should have happened instead!

Thus: We know that Mendoza is a Special Cyborg (TM) because she shoots Crome Radiation, and therefore she has special powers. In my mental Company series, these special powers include the ability to resist genetically enhanced charisma, so whenever Mendoza's Threefold Boyfriend tries to manipulate her, she sees right through the manipulation and throws it right back at Nicholalecward!

Yes! The Company series would have been so much better without Mendoza's love interests. Maybe edit as you read is the way to go.
