After much trial and travail, I have arrived safely back at school to start researching my honors thesis (cue gibbering noises of terror here.)

I have also discovered that the gods of thesis research are something like me, in that if you appease their ire with a sacrifice of Diet Coke, life will suddenly go smoother. For example: after being told that my luggage containing all my worldly possessions had been placed accidentally on the wrong airplane and would not be arriving at the airport until well after the time I had to be at school and checked in, I went to cheer myself up by buying lunch from the airport diner. Immediately after sitting down to eat it, I spilled the soda all over the table, the floor, and the only clothes I was guaranteed of possessing in the near future - and as soon as I had cleared up the spill, the phone rang, informing me that they had magically found my luggage after all and it was waiting for me downstairs.

So once again, the moral is reinforced: while hope is great, we (and the gods, apparently) really need caffeine.

Funny, I would never have guessed Diet Coke to be a preferred substance for libations. Whatever works, I suppose!
