skygiants: Cha Song Joo and Lee Su Hyun from Capital Scandal in a swing pose (got that swing)

Dear Festividder,

Thank you so much for making a vid for me! I will absolutely be delighted by whatever you make, and I'm really looking forward to watching it! Bits of this letter are copied from previous years, bits are all-new, disregard absolutely anything that doesn't speak to you and make the vid of your heart.

As a sidenote, a bunch of my safety fandoms this year turned out to be film/theater versions of classic works of literature; for any of these, please feel free to pull in additional related source material if the spirit moves you.

Safety fandoms: Anastasia (1956), Notre-Dame de Paris (1999), Muppet Treasure Island (1996), The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)
TV shows: 부암동 복수자들 | Avengers Social Club, 청춘시대 | Age of Youth, 시카고 타자기 | Chicago Typewriter, 힐러 | Healer

Anastasia (1956)

What fascinates me about this movie is its ambiguity -- key questions about Anna's identity, General Bournine's motivations, and the relationships between all the major players (Anna, Bournine, and the Dowager Empress) all remain really deeply unresolved by the end of the film. If you offered to vid this movie (or end up vidding it as a safety fandom, for that matter) I don't know what your opinions are about any of those things, but I would love to see you explore them in the medium of a vid! (As a sidenote, I also requested this movie for Yuletide this year -- obviously a Yuletide fic and a Festivid are different beasts, but I'm linking that letter as well in case it's interesting or relevant.)

Notre-Dame de Paris (1999)"

Notre-Dame de Paris is a French musical adaptation of the Victor Hugo novel from 1998, which keeps all the key features of the book -- beautiful dancer, creepy priest, devoted disabled bellringer, douchebag soldier, douchebag soldier's fourteen-year-old girlfriend, beautiful dancer's random fake husband narrator, epic tragedy, Hugovian digressions, and Gothic architectural symbolism literally crushing everything in its path!

When I imagine a vid for Notre-Dame de Paris, my brain inevitably flies to angsty punk rock, but there are also many other fascinating possibilities so please feel free to explore! (Gregorian chants? Actual bell-ringing? Songs from the Disney musical?) Also, if you want to use other footage to expand the bounds of Notre-Dame beyond the limitations of the Parisian stage, be my guest.

Muppet Treasure Island (1996)

Greatest Treasure Island adaptation of all time? MAYBE. I guess hypothetically I could have nominated the entire Muppet Movieverse here, but to be honest, this is really the Muppet movie of my heart - pirates! tourist rats! Tim Curry seducing Miss Piggy! SAILING FOR ADVENTURE ON THE BIG BLUE WET THING! I'd be happy for any focus and any kind of music for this canon - sea shanties? Muppet-ized rock? Another brilliant idea I have not even conceived of?

The Scarlet Pimpernel (1982)

I've gotten deep into a Scarlet Pimpernel kick this year; this particular film was my first encounter with the story and the most formative one, but I have also loved many other Pimpernel iterations (the books, the Leslie Howard movie, the musical, the takarazuka revue production...) and would be delighted with any take on the material!

My favorite thing in this particular film version is Ian McKellen as a tiny, furious, deeply thirsty Chauvelin (and indeed I have discovered that the later books bear out this characterization one hundred percent) but I also love Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour, and all the nonsense disguise, fancy parties, and swashbuckling. I do have a soft spot for costume-drama vids set to contemporary pop, but, I mean, I also love costume-drama vids set to baroque music, there are many possible ways to capture the Spirit of Adventure!!!! here!

부암동 복수자들 | Avengers Social Club

SOMETIMES, THE REAL REVENGE IS THE FRIENDS YOU MADE ALONG THE WAY. I loved pretty much every minute of this feel-good TV show about a team of wives and moms taking down the various terrible men who threaten them and their families. (Here's the recruiter post I made after first watching it, in case that's interesting or relevant. It's only twelve episodes! Totally watchable in Festivids time! >.>)

My favorite Avenger is Jung-hye (she's so beautifully committed to being bizarre) but I would love a vid focused on any of the three lead women, or on their dynamic together! While I like Soo-gyum and the younger generation, I don't care about them as much on their own and would prefer a vid that didn't focus on Soo-gyum alone; however, a vid that focused on Jung-hye and Soo-gyum, Mi-sook or Do-hee and their respective children, or indeed all of TEAM REVENGE as a collective, would be absolutely delightful.

청춘시대 | Age of Youth

Another request, another twelve-episode kdrama about women and crime and revenge! (Also on Netflix as Hello My Twenties, if you're having trouble tracking it down. My favorite thing about this show -- aside from every one of the girls (here btw is a recruiter post I made about these terrible beloved girls) -- is the constant tonal shifts between 'psychological thriller' and 'indie comedy about weird roommates', which provides a LOT of scope for vidding. EITHER IS GREAT. BOTH ARE GREAT. FOLLOW YOUR HEART.

As with Avengers Social Club, I'd love a focus on any of the roommates, any of the relationships between the roommates, or all the girls together; love interests are fine but I'd rather they weren't at the center of a vid. (Unless you're talking about Yi-na as love interest Jin-myun or Ye-un, in which case: PLEASE, BE MY GUEST.)

시카고 타자기 | Chicago Typewriter

This show has SO MUCH. The possessed portrait of Eugene O'Neill! The haunted dog! Ghost roommate hijinks! My only request is that a vid not focus on the relationship that focuses on the romance between two of the protagonists to the exclusion of the third -- if you want to make a character study about one of the leads or side-characters, that's totally OK and I'm very much into it, but when it comes to the main interpersonal dynamics I am very invested in the equilateral revolutionary triangle.

ALSO, as a sidenote, if BY CHANCE you happen to have seen my other favorite revolutionary kdrama by this author, Capital Scandal, and if BY CHANCE you felt like vid-crossovering, that is a thing about which I would not complain at all.

힐러 | Healer

Healer is one of my all-time favorites, a 20-episode drama about political corruption, the power of the press, and emotionally stunted action heroes pretending to be plucky reporters. FOR GREAT JUSTICE.

There are so many interesting characters in this show, and so many cool loose ends -- while I'd love a vid about any of the main characters and plotlines (plucky reporters vid! hilarious Clark Kenting vid! Young Shin and her mom vid! Young Shin and her dads vid! Scathing vid about political corruption! Min Ja-centric vid, SIGN ME UP), I am also super open to a vid that pulled in other sources for extensions on what we see in the show itself. What about making this imaginary sequel a little closer to reality? How about the tinhat shipper vid for Young Shin's two dads? Or a vid about the pirate radio group in their heyday, before everything went to hell in a handbasket? (If you happen to have seen Sandglass, a crossover vid would be SUPER FASCINATING.)

I'm delighted.
