skygiants: C-ko the shadow girl from Revolutionary Girl Utena in prince drag (someday my prince will come)
[personal profile] skygiants
I am back from a fabulous and productive weekend! Despite dire predictions - okay, mostly mine - we have all survived. (Look, I had reason to be worried, okay? LOOK AT THIS EVIDENCE:

OVER THE RAINBOW

EMMY: Vermont is so beautiful! The weather is so perfect! THIS IS AMAZING.
BECCA: True! Almost unnervingly perfect.
EMMY: LOOK A RAINBOW.
GEN: . . . there can't be a rainbow. It's not raining! The sun is shining!
EMMY: And yet, nonetheless, there is a rainbow!
GEN: . . . . wow.
EMMY: This is so beautiful.
BECCA: Uh, this might just be me, but is nobody else feeling like this might be an ominous portent of doom?

GOOD MORNING

GEN: Good morning, guys!
EMMY: Good morning! I'm gonna go back into the guest room to get my towel.
BECCA AND GEN: *chat amicably*
EMMY *from guestroom*: . . . Becca?
BECCA: Yeah?
EMMY: Did you notice the GIANT FLOATING EYE over your bed last night?
BECCA: . . . . NO I DID NOT.
EMMY: @_@
BECCA: @_@
GEN: Oh yeah. Uh. My dad thinks that holographic blinking eye mobile is awesome! :D
EMMY: That's great and all, but what I want to know is, why didn't we see it last night?

ON THE WATERFRONT

GEN: So that is why I'm not all that interested in - hey, I've never heard so many fish out here before!
EMMY: Yeah, there sure are a lot of them, aren't there?
BECCA: . . . are those splashes getting closer?
GEN: Nah, I don't think so . . . okay, maybe? A little?
EMMY: I might be getting a little unnerved here.
BECCA: We are out on a narrow dock at two in the morning, lit only by starlight, without our phones, in a cottage without the internet, and there are ominous splashing sounds coming from all around us. I cannot be the only person here to have ever seen a horror movie!

I still say it's a miracle we made it; also that I would do it again in a heartbeat.)

In other news: all of a sudden Revolutionary Girl Utena is a thing that is all over my flist again! This pleases me, and therefore, instead of catching up on booklogging as I should, I have instead decided to present you with:

The Top Ten Revolutionary Girl Utena Crossovers That Don't Exist But Should (Unless They Do Exist And Nobody Linked Me To Them, In Which Case, Fail, World!)

10. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Harry Potter: Because I firmly believe that Dumbledore and Akio had a passionate affair back in the '50s and have been exchanging letters ever since about the challenges of running a school that is 95% focused on the character development of a special chosen one, and the aggravating necessity of having 'other students.'

9. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Jonathan is a prime candidate for the special Ohtori exchange program! (And Faith is a prime candidate for pulling Buffy's heartsword. if you know what I mean.)

8. Revolutionary Girl Utena/High School Musical/Glee: Speaking of special exchange programs . . . the only thing that Utena is missing is a musical episode. (Alternately, imagine one of the duel songs as performed by a cheery Disney chorus. AMMONITE!)

7. Revolutionary Girl Utena/The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: The funniest part would be that, due to the rules of the metanarrative, Haruhi would never figure out that there was anything at all out of the ordinary about this school, even while Yuki and Anthy were fighting an epic emotionless laser-glasses battle in the background.

6. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Baccano!: Basically I just think that Isaac and Miria need to cameo in everything ever. They're dangerous duellists! Yeah! Dangerous!

5. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Ugly Betty: You know you want to see Akio trying to seduce Daniel too. - okay, maybe you don't actually want to see it. But you want to see Betty's face when she finds out! ("DANIEL," she says, "YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE THAT'S BEEN.")

4. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Ouran High School Host Club: Because Tamaki and Touga's Prince Character-Off would be a thing of greater beauty than words can really express, and so would Nanami and Renge's Evil Laugh-Off.

3. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Leverage: After a phone call from a distraught Kanae about her cheating power-abusing fiance, Nate smirks, adjusts his sunglasses, and says, "Let's go steal a duel." LITTLE DOES HE KNOW.

2. Revolutionary Girl Utena/Princess Tutu: Mytho and Dios ARE THE SAME PERSON. I don't think I need to say more.

1. Revolutionary Girl Utena/What Not To Wear: Someone. Please. COME SAVE THESE POOR CHILDREN FROM THEMSELVES.

Feel free to suggest more! OR TO LINK ME if any of these actually exist. :D

That next-to-last one, YES YES YES. Unfortunately, my Utena-fic-writing skills are all taken up with this Otomen (http://www.onemanga.com/Otomen/) crossover I'm working on. Sorry. ;)

Regarding your crossovers:

10) You give Akio far too much credit. Unless you're playing up a darker vision of Dumbledore, in which case, both of them should be concerned with how best to mold the "chosen one" to accomplish the goal they want.

9) Hm. Given the white knight syndrome, what if Akio managed to sneak Buffy in as a possible replacement for Utena? What if someone tumbled to the scheme and Buffy just didn't stand for it? Utena walked away--Buffy and co. might try to bring Ohtori down.

8) I'm with you on the music. Other than that...I just don't care.

7) Kyon would have to join the Kashira Players.

3) Oh, I'm so there. But Sophie has to be the one in the Duel Forest. (Parker sneaks up to the Council chambers, Elliot becomes the basketball coach, Nate appears as an inspector from the Japanese government with Hardison as his muscle.)

Speaking of special exchange programs . . . the only thing that Utena is missing is a musical episode.

Well, there's always the Takarazuka-style Utena musical itself -- second disc of OST 5. I used to have a fansub of it being performed, but the girl who sang Utena could not stay on pitch to save her life and it was acutely painful to watch, so I may have got rid of it at some point. But bonus for all the characters being played by girls!

(Psst. Becca. I have mp3s if you want...not that I'm particularly fond of that, because I just can't follow the spoken-word bits...but.)

Also, the series To Aru Kagaku no Railgun (and its general universe) sets off my Black Rose radar like crazy. Entire city full of students who are studying to improve their potential to quasi-supernatural abilities? Really shady and occasionally murderous scientific experiments involving children with tragic backgrounds? And that's just the stuff I can say without getting too spoilery. ^_^

I was less shocked that we survived, but the fish were DEFINITELY ominous. The giant floating eye might have just been thematic.

10) *snort* At least Utena's kids get some form of screen time. X3

6) M: "These new outfits are amazing Isaac! Are we going to win the duel?"

I: "Nya-ha Miria, we will succeed even if neither of us knows how to use a sword! (Well just get the drop on them with the pistols in our hearts!)"

Utena: "Wait, they can summon guns?!"

M: "Oooo, Absolute Destiny: Apocalypse Isaa-ku!~

4) I'd think Tamaki wins my vote. ^^; (Of the two he's just slightly more attractive rolling around provocatively on a bed.)

3) You know I'm probably working on it. >_>;

I nominate Ashita no Nadja. Oh what a wacky country they're visiting this week! (Is it even in Europe?!)

And XXXholic, of course. (Despite the current plot weirdness, Yuuko did cement her place as the eternal crossover queen as the space-time witch.)

I, er, may have written a brief snippet of Princess Tutu/Utena before, here (http://web-of.livejournal.com/6414.html?thread=15886#t15886). And I could've sworn I read another one somewhere but I can't seem to remember where.

Also now you've given me a craving for all these crossovers I didn't even know I wanted.

Utena/Princess Tutu are my favoritest crossover in the world and I admit I stalk it a little. These are three I have on hand:

Bedtime Stories (http://poor-choices.livejournal.com/348023.html) by Chash

With No Companion (http://gaisce.livejournal.com/77858.html) by me (if only in the interest in proving I have thought of it way too in-depth)

Evolving Archetypes (http://community.livejournal.com/quillofferings/128765.html) by Aishuu

Also the idea of an Utena/Leverage crossover sounds so good. I really want someone to write it now.

If I contributed to this by squeeing endlessly about RGU, then I am very pleased! :D

All these crossovers look marvellous! The 'Revolutionary Girl Utena/The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya' may irreparably break my brain from the crack though!

RGU/Princess Tutu is inevitable! Nanami and Lilie: switched at birth! *shivers*

Hi, you don't know me - I found you through friendsfriends - but OMG YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT UTENA CROSSOVERS YAY. I firmly believe that this series lends itself astonishingly well to crossovers, simply because it's so surreal and laden with archetypes, and the setting is so odd and self-contained that you have to wonder how it would respond to interactions with the outside world.

I have written a ton of Utenacrossovers myself, including several with Harry Potter. I actually also had an idea for Akio/Albus and will probably be writing it someday, but in the meantime, I've settled for working on a series (some of which is already online) in which Percy Weasley (ambitious, often very naive, and with family issues to boot) becomes Akio's new minion.

I would read your Jonathan-at-Ohtori fic. And (*reads comments*) the ones with Baby-Sitters Club and Newsies, too. Damn.

*squee*
