Date: 2007-05-19 02:35 am (UTC)1. He married Sandra because of her optimism. He also feels - or felt, at least - that contact with the Harsh Realities of the Cruel World would shatter that optimism beyond repair. Hence a large portion of the Teacup Philosophy.
2. His feelings towards Mr. Muggles are mixed. On the one hand, he's useless and irritating, and he occasionally suspects the Company to have put a camera or something in his collar. On the other hand, he's part of the family and therefore Must Be Protected, at lest until he becomes a danger to other, more important members of the family. This is also the reason that he kept on feeding Lyle's two pet guinea pigs long after Lyle himself had ceased to remember to care for them.
3. He seriously encouraged Sandra's interest in show dogs after they brought Claire home so that she would have somewhere non-Claire towards which to direct her maternal impulses. Just in case.
4. Every weekend that he isn't away, he makes sure to have Sunday afternoon free to spend with Lyle (though Lyle does not always take advantage of this, and Mr. Bennet doesn't push). This is because he knows that, of necessity, Claire takes up more of his attention.
5. Tangential to HRG, but there really is a camera in Mr. Muggles' collar.

Date: 2007-05-19 02:46 am (UTC)1. He makes it a point to get along very well with Megan's husband, who is a very nice if not blindingly intelligent man who never understands why his wife gets so worked up over her little brother.
(That point is solely to annoy Megan.)
2. He stopped playing rugby because he no longer had the time, with his studies. Completely coincidentally, of course, this was around the same time that one of his teammates got his nose broken and spoiled his looks forever.
3. One of his favorite things about living in Ingary is that men can dress so much more interestingly there.
4. The reason that Sophie doesn't know why was so adamant about Sophie going to Wales to stay with Megan in Castle in the Air: he wanted her to have the baby in a hospital.
GWYNNE FEEL FREE TO TELL ME IF I AM BLINDINGLY OOC WITH ANY OF THESE.

Date: 2007-05-19 02:53 am (UTC)1. At some point in the future he will of course want a grandchild. All the same, part of him hopes Colin will never marry. Too much risk (for Colin).
2. Colin was not the name of any family members of his; Lily picked the name.
3. He went through a phase when he was young when he would lie about his last name instead of saying that he was Craven.
4. Misselthwaite used to have a stables, but it hasn't ever since Archibald became Master. He can't ride - or doesn't, at least (though possibly he could if he tried) - and doesn't see the point of keeping one around, much to the eventual disappointment of Colin and Mary. It's now a storage shed.
5. Freud would have a field day with Archibald, but Archibald would find him a vulgar and irritating man.

Regarding 3): I'm not sure I see that one either. I don't know who he'd ever met who'd ask him about his name.
4) Yes, but he wasn't the one who commanded the stables be taken down. Dr Craven suggested it would be a good idea, and Archibald just went with it. He didn't care enough to make the decision himself.
You're absolutely right about 5), though.

Date: 2007-05-19 03:09 am (UTC)Claire:
1. She watched The O.C. religiously for the first two seasons (note: I do not watch The O.C., so I generalize), and occasionally wondered wistfully why her life and family couldn't be that interesting.
2. She had her first crush when she was seven, on Mario Lopez from Saved By the Bell (which she saw in reruns), and was more disappointed than she will ever say to find out that really he was, like, thirty.
3. Lyle tried to take one of her teddy bears once when she was nine and he was six (I may have ages off, but around there), and she defended it furiously. The argument ended in tears. A few years later, she felt guilty, and gave it to him for his birthday, but by that point he had outgrown them and was very visibly disappointed not to have gotten a Playstation game instead.
Xander:
1. He totally had a security blanket when he was five. It's still somewhere in his room.
2. He removed the picture of Principal Flutey from his ninth- and tenth-grade yearbooks, because . . . eugh, bad associations. This does not mean that he has never occasionally wished that hyena-people would eat Snyder.
3. Once, when he was pissed at Buffy and Willow, he spent hours ranting to Amy the Rat. When she turned back into a human he really hoped she had forgotten everything he said.

Date: 2007-05-19 03:53 am (UTC)Namely:
1.) She's never had a child, but at one point she had an abortion. I think it was probably the first abortion she ever performed.
Also, it was Cuthbert's lovechild.2.) She sold a lot of wives certain herbs to put in their husband's food ranging from unpleasant to fatal, but up canon-time or very close before she didn't do it unless she knew that there was a reason.
. . . it didn't necessarily have to be something that someone else would consider just cause for murder, but it would have to be enough to fill Rhea's personal standards.
3. Someone left kitten!Musty at her doorstep as a cruel joke - witches' familiar, etc. She kept him out of perversity. (The kid who left him met with an extremely embarrassing, though nonfatal, accident after.)

Date: 2007-05-19 05:48 am (UTC)1. The most terrifying moment in Michael's life (up until that point) is going to be when Fanny inspects him for Martha-suitability. It'll help him build gumption, though! And next time he sees Megan after that, she won't seem half so unnerving.
2. He was tempted - once, when he first started courting Martha!Lettie - to take some money out of what they'd saved to buy himself a new suit. He brooded over it for days.
And then Howl noticed that his clothes were getting old, and bought him a new suit, and he felt horribly guilty and vowed to take better care of the finances and do more for Howl than ever.
3. Out of everyone in the castle, he probably misses the dog!man the most. He liked having a dog! Even if it was an awfully morose one. He used to take him for long, morose walks and attempt to convince him to play fetch.
(ALSO. I have your icons, albeit not on this computer. What e-mail address should I send them to?)

Date: 2007-05-19 06:53 am (UTC)1. Myrtle likes to read weepy romances to Jack. Jack yawns through three-quarters of the story, and then by the end gets very caught up and indignant and demands JUSTICE when the ending is tragic. Every time.
2. He will always be completely oblivious about Ssillissa.
That being said, he'll get really, really bitchy and overprotective if she ever finds a male of her own kind.
3. Once or twice, after a long time (if sequel-canon doesn't end up coming relatively fast), he'll catch himself thinking of Mrs. Mumby as 'Mother'. And when he does he'll be short with all the Mumbys for a while after, because . . . no. He has a family out there.

1. At first, Torquil was really, really offended by disco. Painfully so.
Then he realized the costuming opportunities available in big hair and the giant trouser legs and embraced it with utter evil glee. He tried to talk the choirboys into embracing it too.
Now that he is free to travel, he will go through the same cycle with MTV.
2. Awful can't sing. Both Torquil and Awful are aware of this. But Awful enjoys it, and Torquil thinks it is entertaining to encourage her anyways.
3. How much does Torquil like being one of the tall ones of the family? THIIIIIIIIIIIIIS much. He also likes being skinny and stylish, but every so often he envies Shine her bulk. She's so imposing.

Date: 2007-05-19 08:35 pm (UTC)Okay.
1. Roslin has not changed her hairstyle throughout all of canon because it's at least one thing that provides some kind of reassuring continuity. She can look in the mirror and tell herself that at root, in her ideals, she hasn't changed as much as she's afraid she has. (It doesn't work as much as she would like it to.)
Along these lines, Adama's moustache was a horrible betrayal.
. . . that last part is probably just me projecting.
2. All that time in canon that we Didn't See Apollo and Roslin getting less close but were supposed to assume that they were, Roslin was actually deliberately distancing herself from Lee. Lee and Adama had a second chance as much as she and Adama did, and she didn't want to jeopardize any of that.
3. Roslin kept a very close eye on Ellen Tigh throughout Ellen's lifespan - not because she was worried about sabotage or anything, but because she was an excellent barometer for the civilian mindset.
4. Roslin also keeps up with all the grunge bands that have sprung up throughout the Fleet. She tried very hard to stay on top of the music scene on Caprica, too. As a youth educator, she always liked to think that she was With It as far as modern music goes, so she will say with determination that she enjoys whatever the rap equivalent in Battlestarverse is. No one ever believes her. It's a fairly obvious truth that she would much rather settle back with some classical (which in Battlestarverse I am sure is full of poundy drums).
